The god of death, brother of Hypnos. Possessor of giant black wings, the cold whiff of which is felt by those who go to Hades. Thanat possesses a heart of iron and is hated by the gods. He is the only one of the gods who does not like gifts. The cult of Thanatus existed in Sparta.
