In the mythology of the Olmec (Jaguar Indians) there is a legend about the magical transformation of Maku Lele. Maku Lele is described as a weak Indian, and when the men go hunting he is trusted to stay in the village with the women and children to keep the fire going. At this point, a neighboring warring tribe attacks the village. Maku Lele drinks a drink made from the herb “jurema” (which Jaguar showed the Olmecs). He is possessed by the spirit of the Jaguar and defeats the enemy.
